Since this is a Magic/Sorcery type of forum, I figured I should start a topic about a book that involves lots of wizards and such. So....has anyone else read A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin?

It's about a boy (Sparrowhawk) who lives in the Archipelago, where wizards are not too uncommon, and when he is young, he discovers that he posesses the gift of magic more strongly than most. (note, there's a lot of background stuff given that I'm skipping. Eventually, after a brief apprenticeship to Ogion, the resident Wizard of Gont (an island), Sparrowhawk leaves to Roke Island, which is home to the school for Wizards. Once there, he learns faster than any other students, and desires for more knowledge. But one night, trying to prove his knowledge to another student, he attempts to raise a dead person, and instead, a monster escapes from the world of the dead, at attacks him. The Archmage drives the monster away, but Sparrowhawk (whose true name is Ged) is left scarred and unconscious. By the time he recovers, he has fallen behind the other students, etc., and is much more hesitant in his spell-working. The rest of the book is pretty much about him vs. the creature, which is basically the embodiment of the darkness in himself. In the end, he wins, in a really cool finish. There are four more books after that, too: The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tenahu, and The Other Wind. I've read them all. The best one is The Farthest Shore, without a doubt. In that book, Sparrowhawk is the Archmage of the Archipelago, and possibly the most powerful and famous one ever. It is a really awesome series.
