My parents taught me everything. If they're not pleased, something's wrong - I value their opinion almost above anyone's. I think...my mother would be worried, and astonished at the companions I chose. I don't think she would have agreed with my decision at Vryngard, my choosing Kendath as my companion to go back in time. I...I don't know, even now, if things would have been different if I hadn't chosen him. I've always been my father's favorite, even if I do say it myself. He'd be proud of me, I know - not that my mother wouldn't, but she would offer words of caution more than words of praise. My siblings would be so enamored with Wyvern that they wouldn't hear a thing I said.

What is your relationship with your siblings? Are you the mediator, the one who takes care of your younger brothers and sisters?

Actually, I would say it's the other way around. What with parents and two older brothers, I was quite sheltered for a long time. I was eleven when my younger twin brothers were born, but they only put up with being coddled for a few years. Then they were holy terrors. I left when I was fifteen, and since then I've acquired a sister I've never met, so I was more the one being taken care of than vice versa. A boy only tried to kiss me once - I believe my brothers scared him off. And there were prettier damsels to chase after.

Meldawen - Merrin can't be that ugly - beauty is perception after all and 20 percent confidence. Do you think that if Merrin was the flirty kind, she'd be more attractive?

It's not that she's ugly - but she's not strikingly attractive. She's pretty average. And if beauty is 20 percent confidence, Merrin really is not that confident. All through her early teenage years she was far more interested in dragons than in boys, and by the time she started to notice them, she'd already developed the notion that they weren't interested in her. And she's about as far from flirty as you can get, so yes, that perhaps has something to do with it. Combined with shyness, an air of being slightly socially awkward, and low self-confidence - and there you have it.
