Was Raistlin truly the savior of the world and ought to be worshipped ( )? Or do you think he only sacrificed his life because he found out that his plan wouldn't work? I think that Raistlin made a tremendous sacrifice. Sure, he sacrificed himself AFTER he found out about his fate, but did he really have to give up his staff in order to ensure the safety of others? Did he really have to get Caramon and Crysania out of harm's way before he was ripped to pieces? There could have been alternatives...he could have done one meager action to change the course of the future. But he knew then that it would have been dangerous for him and for Krynn if he stayed. He may have worn black robes and he may have done many unforgivable things, but that one little spark of goodness inside him revealed itself when the matter became serious - his plan could have been fatal to the whole world as he knew it. So, what do you think?

I think that Raistlin has been living in denial all his life. All his life, under the persecution of his peers and the adversities of his childhood, he's been trying to rise above the mediocre. He's been trying to prove to himself that he's smarter, better, more powerful than the rest of them (which is, in a sense). His own pride makes him want to believe that, in the end, despite everything he's been through, he's invincible. He WILL rise against. He WILL attain purpose and greatness in godhood if only to prove himself and to feed his ambition. His pride deludes him into thinking that he will succeed.
But then Caramon shows him the truth, and Raistlin finds that his pride and power is shattered. In his moment of vulnerability he sees Bupu, perhaps seeing all the innocence in the world he'd almost destroyed, and with the falling of his steel illusions he comes to relook his course. The striving for purpose is still there, so he finds a greater purpose in fixing his mistake and sacrificing himself.

i think raist sacrificed himself when he knew i was pointless when he forsaw the future..evil can only destroy not create paladine showed him that and when raist figured it out paladine saved his ass..in the dragons of summer flame raistlin was released from the abyss by palin (white robe)BUT he did so without his magic and it made him nothing other than a powerless non magic user...reduced to street illusionist....
it also gave caramon closure ......
we may never know what has/ will happen to raistlin as he went with the gods to forge a new world...
am looking forward to the dl film i just hope that they do it justice and stick to the books and that they do the whole story up to and including dragons of summer flame..it will give us all a chance to see all the gods of krynn .....
