Interesting companions indeed.
First of all, his name wasn't Dee. His name was wonderfully and aesthetically Denaris Erydera, Second in the Council, son of Elasse Nhyia and an imbecile. Furthermore, he didn't have the heart to point out that 'Dee' and 'see' rhymed most distastefully. Second of all, Eledhe was a magic-user. Here was unexpected news. This complicated matters a bit, but it wasn't anything he couldn't cope with.
But... Dee...? Pistachio Man was going down.
A transient peace treaty imposed, Denaris kicked his hated mare into a manic zigzagging path through the boulder shower. A muttered enchantment granted him godspeed as he zipped across the distance, fairly bounding over the renewed bridge after Eledhe. On the ravine's other side, he yanked sharply on his mount's reins. The horse balked and whinnied its disapproval.
A rock the size of Denaris's head whistled past, narrowly grazing his right ear. His coiffure was suffering. Agonizingly. This simply couldn't persist.
"Hold them off," he told both mercenaries. That settled, he whipped out a scroll and began spellcasting.
